Configuring Windows with your FTP account Print
The tutorial will help you configure an ftp account in "My Network Places". This will allow you to drag and drop files from your local hard drive to the web server with your ftp account. Those files on the ftp account will be available to you from another computer say at home. Or someone that you have shared the login information, you can instead of email very large files that may not be permitted by some email providers or fill up the recipients email box. You can send a notice that the file is now available and can download at a more convenient time

Step 1 

After clicking the Start button at the lower left-hand corner that brings up a menu that should have a My Network Places link. After click it you should see a window that would like this.

Now you can "Add a Network Place" by clicking the link at the top right-side.

Now you should see the wizard which will walk you through it. Click Next to move on.

Be sure to select "Choose another network location"

Here you enter the ftp address. The example here is if your account is demo for the domain jspdemosite.com.  For the address enter ftp://ftp.jspdemosite.com.

It is very important is to make sure the "Log on anonymously" checkbox is unchecked. Enter your account name here, demo.  The first time you login it will ask for your password, so you don't need to worry about this now.

The is where you name the account, and it can be anything. The default is ftp.jspdemosite.com for this example. It could be change to "Demo account".

Click finish to complete the setup.

Login in for the first time you will see a login window. Here you will need to enter the account name and add the address to the end of it. Example here is for demo again, so you would enter This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it  for the user name. Then enter the password. If you click the "Save password" you won't need to login everytime.

After login this is what you will see. Leave the file that is there. You can create folders,  drag and drop files just like it is on your local computer.

Now anytime you want to access your ftp account just click on My Network Places and it will be listed there.
